Sub-forrar o vestido - Underlining the dress

As I told you before, I though of underlining this dress with fusible thin knit to provide more body to the fabric and to minimize wearing wrinkles. The interfacing and the fabric together will behave as one and will be handled as one too.

The difficult part here is guaranteeing that the interfacing doesn't slide on the fabric surface and that it won't wrinkle when it is being fused; if this happens the fabric will be most likely ruined permanently. For this reason, instead of cutting the interfacing pieces first and then attaching them to the fabric pieces, I lay down the interfacing on my table, glue side facing up, and I place the fabric pieces on top (minding the grain lines), wrong sides facing the interfacing; I thread trace all pattern lines holding fabric and interfacing together; only after I do this for all the fabric pieces (except the facings which will be handled on the traditional way), I will cut the interfacing. As you all know, interfacing SAs must be smaller than the fabric's so I will trim out an extra bit all around it.

Here you can see how I did this for the front; first I thread traced the CF line (this is easy because I'm using a pinstripe as a guide):
Next I place the pattern on top on the left side and I thread trace all the pattern lines and outlines; I repeat for the other side. Notice the pattern darts; they are cut on one side and turned to the other side so I can thread trace them as well:
Fiquem bem!
Next I will show you the final result for this procedure after fusing (I hope I get this right) and also how to modify the pattern to cut the lining. Be well!

Pelo que vejo em breve teremos vestido. Muito bem!

Cutting the darts and turning them to one side for thread tracing is such a great idea. I hadn't seen this suggested before. It solves a number of marking problems. I hope you don't mind, but I'm stealing this technique & adding it to my permanent repetoire. :)

Also, I really like the style & fit of the stripey shrug; it's very smashing. I've been meaning to knit a shrug for years, ever since I saw Paul Smith showing them a good 4 years ago, but just never have, because I keep thinking they'll go out of style shortly. Which they haven't done. I'd really like to have one before it's too late.
